eyeshakingking wrote: Absolutely fantastic year, imo. I've been keeping track of the best releases this year w/ a list on RYM. http://rateyourmusic.com/list/Eye_Shaking_King/best_of_2010 It's currently 75 albums long, so I'll just post the link instead of the list itself. I'll post a shorter top 25 or something when I have more time. Really comprehensive list, cheers for sharing the link. Loads of stuff I've not heard of, but shall be checking out. Dom Valvona

Yeah, some good stuff's come out this year, even i can come up with a few from memory.... Black Mountain - Wilderness Heart Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me Motorpsycho - Heavy Metal Fruit Magic Lantern - Platoon Mugstar - Lime Gnod Drop Out With White Hills 2 Jane Weaver - The Fallen By Watch Bird High Wolf - Ascension Sun Araw - On Patrol / Off Duty Tame Impala - Innerspeaker MGMT - Congratulations Grinderman - 2 Swans - My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky JG Thirlwell - Venture Bros Comps... In Search Of Hawkwind An Enormous Psychedelic Bubble 3 Deutsche Elektronische Musik Reissues... The Fall - Wonderful & Frightening World Of ( 4CD ) Iggy & the Stooges - Raw Power David Bowie - Station To Station Motorpsycho - Timothy's Monster Would love to hear the new Sandy Denny boxset too, hmm, but need to get a PS3 to play Gran Turismo 5, sadly the vicarious thrills of the game will likely win out. Er, and have probably forgotten a few things that should have been included in the above too ( and apologies if any of them were 2009 releases ! ) Edit - Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Before Today - haven't heard this but looking at your lists it seems that i probably should.

I remember Hall & Oates the first time around =8-o

I remember Hall & Oates the first time around =8-o To me it sounds more like The Cure trying to play Wings songs in lofi, but there is definitely something "retro 1976-1982" going on here . . . (PS - I like Hall & Oates too, always have!)

AP's singing is a lot more Ian Curtis than Hall or Oates. The music has some similarities to H&O (80's beats, squishy synth hooks) . . . if those two were mopey goths who wrote everything in a minor key and recorded in their mom's basement! Though if you're allergic to mid-70's/early-80's pop sounds (or pseudo-Brit singing from an American), then indeed you might want to stay away!

Being decisive has never been my strong suit and just the mention of IC has got me swaying in the breeze like a reed. Myspace here we go, ears don't fail me now.... Thanks again for the advice.

I'd say his music is more about a "style/sound" than "songs" (though his songs are getting better) -- so it should be pretty easy to determine from a few listenings if you like what he does or not. (Earlier stuff is much the same but even more lofi -- originally it was literally just a guy with a 4-track, nowdays there is an actual band.)

I put together some discs for you at the weekend but have been scrabbling around trying to find my address book! Anyway, CDs included Hundred In The Hands, These New Puritans and Warpaint! :o)
