Lawrence wrote: Oh I might just mention I just got hold of the Tornadoes' Telstar album. Always wanted to get hold of this... "Telstar" is still a thing of beauty. I totally agree, I've never tired of that track I'd recommend the "Telstar" film too! It's out on DVD, but not sure if it's done in 'region 1' format yet etc.

Quirky and beautiful. Johnny Remember Me by John Leyton, another Joe Meek masterpiece, is eerily wonderful as well. Possibly the first ever Goth track ?

We all come here to discuss our music and arts discoveries because most real-life friends and aquaintances think we're barking mad liking these bands. If it was any good they'd play it on the radio! I heard that one a few times. Even had a few folk tell me they don't see live bands cos they're never as good as the record. There isn't a wrong or right. Or a crap.

Screamin' Jay Hawkins - "I Put A Spell On You" (1956) was about five years before, but there's probably a gaggle of goth purists that would nominate something earlier than that! diamond geezer!! http://themusicsover.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/screaminjay.jpg >8-o

ah yes, I thought we could take the walk down the key scene but transpose it to a walk down the pub. I'll get my video cam and you can dub in the music!
