Er, yes. This is all gross figures, not per capita. Compare China's gross consumption of anything and, having a fifth of all humanity, it will look huge.

So whilst the article you link to says that China consumes double the US's amount of meat and steel, we have to remember that China has more than four times the population.

The only per-capita figure sum mentioned is personal annual income, which it says is one-seventh of America's.
