As others have pointed out, the early Hawkwind albums (up to and ioncluding "Warrior on the Edge of Time") are the place to start.

I's also add the first 5 Amon Duul II albums, and the first 6 or 7 Man albums (although their spacerock inclinations tend to be counterpointed with a pub-rock earthiness that can sometimes make for a disjointed listening exprience). Early Guru Guru and Ash Ra Tempel, and even some of Funkadelic and Parliament's early albums fit fairly well into the genre too.

In terms of more recent stuff, there's the obvious Spacemen 3 / Spectrum / Spiritualized axis, plus Bardo Pond, Flying Saucer Attack, Windy & Carl, mid-period Flaming Lips, early Mercury Rev (principally "Yerself is Steam" and "Boces") and probably a slew of others I've yet to hear.
