This thread has included loads of my fave groups.

The Smiths, Suicide, The Fall, Joy Division, The Doors, etc.

As we get thread after thread after thread hailing naff rock bands who were old hat by the time they came about, I can only come to the conclusion that a lot of folk here are scared of the artists who brought a new slant on things. Better to rip off old Stones or Sabbath riffs!

Seriously though, I think it's more interesting when we nominate people we reasonably expect to like, like Paradox not liking The Doors even though he likes music of that era.

I'm never gonna get, say, G'n'R because they operate in a style I don't like, so it seems pointless even nominating them, whereas as I always expect to like Robert Wyatt but somehow he never does it for me. I think he's a fascinating bloke, and I really enjoyed that BBC3 documentary about him a few years back. Indeed the worst thing about it IMO was when he performed live in the studio. I really thought it was all gonna fir into place that night but, alas, it didn't.
