"Band on the Run" on AM radio -- which for some reason I thought at the time was a song by KC & the Sunshine Band (don't ask me why.)

And listening to 8-tracks on my grandpa's new-fangled stereo: "Ahab the Arab" by Ray Stevens and a whole bunch of Roger Miller songs stick in my head.

I don't even know the names of those Miller tunes, but there's one about "the chimes of big ben" and the "faces of the lit-tle chil-dren" that sticks out.

And the one about how "you can't roller skate in a buffalo herd" (isn't that song called "Dang Me"?)

Plus of course, "King of the Road"!

I think the first bands I liked were The Police and Hall & Oates -- they seemed so modern compared to that "grandpa's music"! Ahh the 80's! (I can practically see myself running around in a space age polythene coat and "moon boots" . . . )
