October 1970, so age 14, Tyrannosuarus Rex @ Birmingham Town Hall, back of the Upper Circle with John Leeson, in my newly tie-dyed 3-button vest (!)

can remember it vividly, unlike many subsequent gigs @ B T H, although some of my memories are:

Can - awesome

Amon Duul II - forgetting the songs, but signing my album covers

Family / Linda Lewis - Jim Cregan in luurrvve

Free - getting autographs & offers of trouser swaps from Paul Rodgers, poor old Koss totally out of it

reviewing Bad Company

Starry Eyed & Laughing - "God's own lightshow"

naughty rythyms tour - Kokomo rocked

to my shame, the afore-mentioned Uriah Heep

getting ripped off by Robin Trower - not being paid for humping & follow-spot work

I promoted a gig there, too, once, but can't remember what it was, though!!

BTH used to be a good venue.....chip in for the bus fare to Brum for someone to buy the tickets, no ticketb*stard, no booking fees, just a scramble for the last bus home sometimes.....OK, I'll get me (great)coat

I think it was the mod band Long Tall Shorty with a punk band whose debut single was called Teddy Bear (can't remember actual name).
At the Africa centre off TRafalgar Square in London.
I then started hanging out in the Regal off Carnaby street which had me following The Playn Jayn when I was 15.
Saw a lot of the psychedelic revival bands too.

Oh and had been driven around to see Morris bands in my pre-teens.

I have a flyer for that gig, framed on the wall right behind where I'm sitting!! An old friend attended that gig and got Bolan to sign it, among other items. Was that the tour where Bowie did a mime show as support?

I did, 'The Shadows', they also dragged me to way too many 'Corries' gigs. Apparently they also took me to see Pentangle, but annoyingly I was way too young to have any memory of that at all.
