ok, here's a quick one: what's the most psychedelic album ever released? i reckon it could be cottonwoodhill by brainticket but as those shrooms beckon, i'd welcome any suggestions. |

Don't listen to 'At the The Mountains Of Madness' by H.P. Lovecraft whilst having shrooms in your system, unless you want to be sick for a very long time, in the head.

If you had asked for one of the most psy album ever, the whole thing would have become a true difficult one ; mmm...let me think; on one hand we have Funkadelic (1st) and 13th floor elevator´s the psychedelic sounds of... On the other hand The Perfect Prescription or Playing with Fire (both by Spacemen 3) could be winners...Even some kind of obscurities like The Zodiac Cosmic Sounds and the fantastic Seven up of As Ra Tempel. But you asks for "THE MOST" psy album ever. Wish they had made me questions like this at school! Ok...No doubt. FUNHOUSE by the stooges is the most....in everything. It just depends on what you consider psychedelia means. love My

I'd reckon Hawkwind's first, maybe a bit too psychedelic... Brainticket's certainly a contender as well, other runners up being the live disk of Ummagumma, either of the elevators first two, (Bull of the Woods I would say is one of the "best" psych albums but certainly not the "most" psych IMO), "Anthem of the Sun" by the Grateful Dead

I'd say Forever Changes by Love. This is psychedelia in its truest sense: visionary, freaky and OUT THERE.

i'm unsure on this one - as its difficult as everyone has already noted to categorise precisely what psychedelic is. most of the albums that u think are psych are period pieces which listened to now just become music, be it good or bad. however, i would go along with most of the recommendations. it needs a way out album sleeve - probably a fold out. have a wacky colourful label. include a mellotron or organ of some description. some wacky instrumentation - flutes or jugs or ..... the consumption of drugs of some description (for the musicians). some way out extended jamming. trippy vocals. long hair. ....and the essential criteria - be in seth's collection! cherish

Hmm, Tago Mago by Can always struck me as VERY psychedelic, and certainly contains most of the criteria Shrimp mentioned in previous post. Captain Beefhearts 'Mirror Man' is another....
