"I like them."

"They're bland only if you hate melodic songs and wallow in avant garde invention. For what it's worth, I can't directly associate any one of their songs with anybody else's. Mebbes I'm just suffering from memory lapse."

OK so we've established that you like them. That's your choice.

I don't hate melodic song, but I do hate contrived anthemic singalonga tunes with little or no real merit i.e. Coldplay If I want to hear melodic songs of good quality, I'll listen to the Beatles, Gorky's, Teenage Fanclub, Radiohead and ELO. I also like "avant-garde" music but I don't wallow in it as you appear to be wallowing in that mush Coldplay.

Not being able to directly associate them with anything does not make them good, which they are not.

I'm sorry, but Coldplay are SHITE, no I'n not sorry they are shite, I'm sorry they are denying far better bands the oportunity

Eddie Cochran, to consider Coldplay and Eddie Cochran in the same sentence is sacrilege

Do you not think Coldplay are to Radiohead what ELO were to The Beatles? ; )

Personally, I couldn't give a shit. I've only heard bits and pieces in the background when I've been at work or in the pub or whatever, and to me it sounded like a half-as-interesting AOR variant of Jeff Buckley. So what? If people want to listen to that stuff, I'm not going to hold a grudge so long as I don't have to.

Ah, that's OK then. I still prefer the original though.

I don't get this "denying far better bands the oportunity" thing you keep saying. In what way are they 'denying' them something. Coldplay make records, people buy the records, they end up in the charts. If lots of people like their records they're in the charts for longer, simple as that. Don't kid yourself that if Coldplay didn't exist then Gorgi's Zygotic Mynki would be at No.1 instead. All it'd do is provide a chart placing for Geri Halliwell or someone similar.
