Vocals that put me off the music

Silver Apples would, I think, sound so much better without the vocals.
So would a lot of Current 93.

Oooh, totally agree with you on the Current 93 front...i really like the music, but his pityful efforts at fey squawking really are like chalk on a blackboard to my ears.

Mind you, on a slightly different tack, much as i adore The Heads, and i don't mind their vocals at all, i do wish they would write decent lyrics, they are pretty dire...they'd do better as an instrumental group i think.

C93
Aug 25, 2004, 13:08
I think things like his cover of Tony T.S. McPhee's "Sad-Go-Round" ('Lucifer Over London') works really well and there are quite a few C93 tracks which suit the 'half-spoken' type vocals, but I know what you mean!

Ah well, they can't all be Demis Roussos circa "666" - now that's Class... At the opening ceremony for the Olympics - they should have had a reformed A. Child on a massive stage blasting out 'The Four Horsemen"!!!

We actually had a thread on "Acts whose music is ruined by the vocals" last year, and it was a pretty long one, so you could always use the search facility to find that if you like.

My nominations were Family (like the music, but Roger Chapman sounds like Larry the Lamb being strangled to me), Joan Baez (I run for cover every time I her her shrill whinnying) and the Incredible String Band (Robin Williamson may have been a great instrumentalist, but to my ears both him and Mike Heron sound like a pair of drunken hobos bellowing out sea shanties on the Embankment).
