Re: Negative Reviews
Jul 11, 2004, 17:43
I think there is a danger of the Unsung section becoming a bit too proscriptive. I mean, I have a problem with the idea that the Unsung reviews section is "for CHAMPIONING lost Rock'n'roll." It's not so much the 'championing' part I have an issue with, but the 'rock'n'roll' part, mainly because most of the reviews I post are not of rock records. Not because I don't like rock, I love it, I just think it's covered very well by other reviewers. But emphasising the term Rock'n'roll could put others off posting reviews of albums which couldn't really be classed as rock as such, but are likely to appeal to rock-attuned ears. I thought my reviews of albums by Stockhausen, Nurse With Wound, Throbbing Gristle, Rhys Chatham and even a sound effects record might be well at home rubbing shoulders with the other reviews although they couldn't be called Rock'n'roll as such. There is a danger of restricting the remit too much, I think.

Oh and Shrimp, I have to say please cut the Holy-er than thou attitude. When I posted this review...

you weren't above posting up some negativity in the reviews section in response, when surely the place would have been this forum?...
