ha.. I've already got two of those skateboarding, badly fitting trouser wearing with chains hanging out of their pockets dudes. Enjoy it mate, you'll find their music taste has some ace moments. cept for Busted and Darkness of course. They call themselves 'grebos' as well, though, well, its not grebo as we know the term thats for certain sure. dont expect them to go digging out any crobsy stills nash or young work anyday soon (thank fuck) I find they respond well to quality hip-hop, RATM, soulfly, Dead Kennedys, Mudhoney and other loud angry things. Just like I did at that age.

I thought Pop Will Eat Itself invented the term 'grebo'.

god no. I remember the term being used to describe Crazyhead fans, which predates PWEI. I think it goes back a helluva lot further too.

It's the same with terms like R&B and Rude Boy. Their meanings mutate with time and context. Ask a 13 year old R&B fan what the Yardbirds mean to them and you'll most likely get a blank look. Same if you ask a contemporary Rude Boy what they think of Trojan ska. None of this matters at all, they're just labels anyway. Vive le confusion.

<Less prejudices and preconceptions than us old folks, eh?>

Hmm, think that depends on the child, Squid (and, by extension, the parents of course). I remember a couple of years ago I was sitting on Wimbledon Common with some spliff, a few mates and a ghettoblaster playing the Beta Band's "Hot Shots II" album (not exactly the most inaccessible LP ever made, as anyone who's heard it will testify).
This cheeky young rapscallion who must have been all of about 10 came up to us and asked "What is that weird shit you're listening to?".

Bloomin' scamp, I nearly gave him a clip round the ear! It's good to hear that your kids are keen on Beefheart though. My only concern is that once they hit puberty they might rebel against your tastes by getting deep into Mariah Carey.

I'm just trying to imagine the shit I'd get on here if I dared to own up to some of the stuff I like. I'll keep my mouth shut.
