And in 18 months to two years time none of those 'disenfranchised' Labour voters who 'lent' their votes to the Tories will ever own up to having done so.

The majority got what they wanted and deserved, and should have got three and a half years ago. For the last time GET OVER IT unless you intend to bore the pants of everyone and submit another 200 comments that is! Right I'm done. One post in enough. Bye See if you can do the same - but I doubt it :-)

Since they're amongst the poorest in Europe, despite being part of the EU, it could be argued that EU membership has really failed to benefit these areas. So why would they vote for the status quo?

It could be argued that way, and yet the other countries of Europe don't have the nine poorest regions, which suggests it's down to many years of Tory Government, despite all those European development grants. Let's see how they now get on with just a Tory Government.

I don't suppose it will end well. Still, when people vote against what seems to be their own best interests, I find myself wondering why. It's certainly not a new phenomenon.
