I thought that she took her husband, Philip's name(s) as her surname. Like lots of ladies who got married did.
"Mrs. Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg-Mountbatten" should have sorted the whole thing out in the Welsh Assembly.
The last part was originally "Battenburg" but following a little "ill feeling" during and after 1914-18 from the thankless millions who died in their name... it became "Mountbatten". Like a sort of camouflage. Apparently "Mountbatten" left a more pleasant taste in British mouths than "Battenburg" - which I can quite believe.
I totally understand why they just tried to wipe the slate clean and go with "Windsor". And it was such an easy mistake for the Welsh lady to make. I mean... who knew? We live and learn.
