Russell Brand and Yanis Varoufakis
Jun 20, 2017, 19:30
I get it. Long hair and even longer words, champagne socialist and all that noise (incidentally, Marx had a bit of a champagne habit, which makes him the O.G. champagne socialist), but I completely fell in love with this podcast ep when I was listening to it the other day in a field on a tree that had been blown onto its side in a storm but then took root again (um, there must be some sort of Corbyn/England metaphor there). Russell Brand is who he is (I like him, and he's always been pretty honest about all of his failings), but Yanis Varoufakis here was so damn clear-headed, charismatic and lucid. He was the Greek finance minister for Syriza, by the way, before stepping down when he realised that his party had been co-opted away from its original vision, and that he was essentially powerless anyway. It's a fascinating listen, and I urge you to give it a go if you want to have the media-propagated fug of fear cleared away and replaced with a brighter view of the world. I really need to follow this Varoufakis guy a lot closer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX7JDLkYMWc
