No, there's no change to the status of elephants nor is there a suggestion that existing restrictions will be lifted. What was in the previous manifesto was a total ban on ivory sales. It's not in the new one. The bit you're referring to doesn't talk about a total ban or even mention ivory. You can't put things in that aren't there.

Wow - even by your standards this is obtuse. Their previous manifesto HAD a policy to introduce a ban. Their latest manifesto DOES NOT have a policy to introduce a ban. Which definition of 'dropped' doesn't apply here? And you can conjure up any nebulous promise to 'save the planet', however it makes no odds, the commitment to a ban on ivory imports has been dropped. Good luck with your Brexit BTW

Goodness anyone might think that the party had actually sat down and deliberately composed the words in their manifesto. That they had consciously decided to omit the previous ivory ban promise and replace it with some vague catch-all about being nice to endangered animals. Yes, this is what happened. They decided what would be in the manifesto and what wouldn't be. They wrote it from beginning to end, carefully. One can only assume they have included things they want to implement, and omitted things they don't want to. Not that difficult to grasp, surely. And thus it is rather inconvenient when people who are actually paying attention (instead of just swallowing the latest Mail headline), notice that some things that were considered implement-worthy last time, don't get mentioned this time because they are now not implement-worthy. How is it possible to spin this any other way. How desperate must one be to cling to the tories that you have to twirl an excuse for them, when it's about reducing protection for one of our most iconic endangered creatures. Christ.

She's folded. (Or listened as they are saying!) Not so strong and stable then. There's going to be a "cap" on how much dementure tax you and your family pay. (Of course, the effect and intention is that people in the South East will be allowed to keep a lot more than #100K as their houses are worth so much more than that whereas crappy Northerners won't as their houses aren't worth so much.)

"when it's about reducing protection for one of our most iconic endangered creatures. Christ." .... and when it's flying in the face of the whole sweep of history and the evolving views of the whole of the rest of the civilised world. Christ indeed.

If you know a better hole, go to it. This thread is inhabited by people who care about foxes and elephants and poor people. Sorry you find it petty and parochial. Your people just voted in someone who hates all three so you oughta find this light relief! ;)

Head Heritage in a nutshell. However, I do care about critters of all species.... Sanctuary is right about one thing though, none of you have made your case about whether or not Elephant ivory trade will be occurring under the oppositional leadership....I certainly am prepared to doubt it myself. Histrionics will only carry so far in a discussion. You all should know by now that ole' {politically moderate} dhajjie is gonna' see both sides of any issue. So far as I can tell, neither side of the polemics is making a good case for it selves in ole' Blighty.

"You all should know by now that ole' {politically moderate} dhajjie is gonna' see both sides of any issue" Well, since even Sanctuary is anti foxhunting (and probably anti elephant slaughter too) we'll all be fascinated to know how you, alone, see the other side of those things as having any merit.
