Much truth there, tho lately their tendency to flock under whatever elected government is in place has been challenged from within. The Republicans are NOT a monolithic force to be reckoned with this election, I think.... they all agree that they want the White House back, but the inner conflicts of a party built on old-school northern GOP & Dixiecrats-gone-over are cracking them apart. (Santorum the über-Catholic vs. Mitt Romney, the Mormon android with perfect hair and instantly reprogrammable positions on any political subject.
Even Barry Goldwater, the far right 60s candidate, was openly suspicious and distrustful of the religious nuts that has largely taken over his party today.
And Ike Eisenhower warned about the sort of corporate-military clusterfuck that's playing house in the middle east.
