Just wondering what you thought of Tommy Sheridan.

What the Fuhrer of the SSP. Who's national socialism will break up British working class unity and British wide working class traditions and organisations.

As usual the (ex) Trotskyists are relying on a charismatic leader to lead the working class to socialism. True Socialism should not rely on leader figures.

Oh, and by the way you can't have socialism in one country (Scotland). Such ideas are Stalinist.

Wow! Incredible analytical skills there! To glean so much from just one question!

I think my mum fancys him, though she nearly pounced on Tam Dayell earlier.

Ah'm an anarchist ( like ah didnae confess it before) and so I've nae time for his politics, and I'm a hedonist so I've nae time for his orange tanning pecidilo, but I must admit i do like the rest of him. Hes got guts and gusto.

He regularly comes along and gets arrested at Faslane, which is guid, tho' he also does press releases in advance saying when hes going to be arrested, which is bad.

So in short I'd die for him if he was getting a kicking, but I'd gie him a kicking if he ever claims to be the boss of me.

Mair importantly, what do you think of him ?

Intriguing chap Sheridan. Can never wholly forgive him for his promise to shop supposed ‘agents provocateurs’ after the Poll Tax demo in 1990. However, as you say, his actions at Faslane are to be cheered (even if they do involve a fair degree of self-aggrandisement). He does well at raising points in the Scottish Parliament/media that wouldn’t get a mention otherwise.

Do agree with MonkeyBoy that the way the (ex)Militant always like to congregate around one ‘heroic’ figure is rather worrying, though I can’t understand what he’s on about in opposing the break-up of the imperialist British state.

All in all, Tommy, a useful fool as, uhhh, I think it was Stalin actually, put it.

I suppose I'd claim to be a trot, although I'm a member of no party or group, and I prefer to think for myself than follow any party line.
I've read through some of Mr Sheridan's stuff on the net, and found amidst the rhetoric, squabbling letters between him and Peter Taafe (The ex head honcho at Militant) So I guess he's as prone as any to the kind of backbiting power plays that seem to plague the left ad nauseum. Are you the Judean People's front????
I'm pleased that a self confessed commie is in a position to challenge the complacent shit-in-a-suits that seem to have occupied every other niche in British politics (Dalyell, Benn, Skinner, excepted, perhaps) When I hear Tommy Sheridan reply to a question by saying "Well... No. I want to tear the whole lot down" I think "Yayyyyyyyy!"

The only organisation I ever joined was the Teardrop Explodes fan club which summed up my political aspirations fully.

Is there a difference between an anarchist and a trot who doesn't belong to a party ?

We don't have truly evil politicians, just tossers like David Steel whose banality outstrips his IQ by a factor of a zillion.

trots tend to think they SHOULD belong to a party, even if all the ones on offer are a bit crap. Well thats my line anyway. (tho that said i was almost offerred the job of dtping for w*^& €£$r, so maybe i will join - sod the soft stalinism, it'd be more fun than this!)Still argue about what we mean by a 'state' as well i imagine, not to mention kronstadt (trotsky was to blame, he was too soft in the first place, should have sent the boys in straight away, bloody liberal)
