It is pleasing to see that US capitalism does not get everything it's own way. Obviously this is a dispute between the European and US Ruling class and of no real long term benefit to either workers in the EU or the US.
Just goes to show that the world Capitalist class is not united and disputes and rivalries exist between them, even in this age of Global Capitalism.
Expect to see nation's ruling classes increasingly hiding behind supposed national interest of the working class as the economic slow down really starts to bite.

Standing up for the Kyoto protocol (whichBush notably hates) and insisting the Americans do what they said they were gonna do in the first place. Shocking.

Sadly, though, I think it's partly a smokescreen to divert attention away from the fact that Blair seems willing to allow Bush to drag the UK into a war with Iraq which has nothing to do with us, and which 71 percent of the UK population don't support, according to a Daily Mirror poll. Blair's been getting a lot of flak lately for being Bush's poodle - maybe this is his way of trying to prove otherwise without saying anything TOO anti-American for comfort.
