the problem is that economists are no more capable than any of us including archaeologists of quantifying the value of that which is most important to us . Climate change , the impact of war , famine or asteroid strike can be quantified and given a value . But you can't quantify the "values " that are most important to punters . It's all a bit reminiscent of the those who argue about the cost /benefit analysis of erecting monuments .
