People imagine and like to believe all sorts , is that not the common denominator ?

If getting out in the countryside is considered to be positive ,the motives need not be , and the two shouldn't be conflated .Fox hunting and badger baiting not to mention dodgy political movements associated with the great outdoors come to mind .

Oh goody! Perhaps we can have a thread about the things we hate other people doing in the countryside, as well as the obvious ones mentioned above I hate 4x4 off-roaders. Apparently a line of them turned up on the edge of Salisbury Plain on Redhorn Hill yesterday, one of the end points on the Great Stones Walk, covering everyone in dust and mud.

Are you being ironic June? If not, can I throw in hunting - in fact all blood sports. It seems such a bloody cheek to vandalise the great outdoors, which is what it is.

Bloodsports, although the Hunting of the Wren may get some kind of bye, at least in its modern non-literal version.

One should never, ever diss the fairies. Not unless you really want to bring to worst kind of trouble down on your head.

Hear, hear. Of course Mark E is a bona fide goblin.
I like a bit of magic; the mysterious; the wonderous; the stories & tales.

I'm so full of hate.4x4' s ..grr. They own the roads you know, cos they're that much bigger ( I do a lot of driving.) Also Ferraris! Parked on the pristine grass just in front of the beautiful little church next door to my place of work. Grass churned up. So, charge him, he can afford it. Wanker. Sorry, not TMA or ethical really seeing as I'm a fellow polluter:)

Oi, you leave my Ferrari alone or I'll puncture your tyres so you can't get back to Cornywall again :-)

John will be remembered. You are right about that.

I didn't say anything about him being remembered .

Let's hope he is . Too many of the alt scene get forgotten ,usually conveniently , but we need to be reminded of what people are capable of believing in the absence of evidence .Puts a bit more meat on the bones on the history of the "counter culture" .
There is also the right wing political element which is nearly as interesting , and often overlooked in that "culture" .

English eccentric , yes , but not quite up there with the Fullers , Beckfords whose follies were only architectural .
