Oh dear! How surprising. Freak weather conditions sometimes cause freak incidents. At least they didn't blow over.

One did, near Coldingham .

See? I told you there was a reason for not having windfarms I in Northern Scotland! Cos it's TOO damned windy and the damned things combust!

Just like I've been saying. (Not the flames - I had no idea about the flames! :D )

Blinkin' heck.

Anyone heard from Drew? You alright up there? It's not safe to leave the house in case a wind turbine combusts over your head.

Watched the news tonight; footage not just of the on-fire wind turbine but also a school bus blown over (thankfully no kids on board) trees across roads and a collapsed building. Seems like a lot of people had a narrow escape from serious injury, haven't heard yet whether anyone has been injured. It goes without saying I hope not.

Wind turbines - hmm. From what I do know, I think they're a very good idea. Unfortunately, they are ugly and intrude on the landscape and are a danger to wildlife. There has been a long standing battle re. them in Kealkill, West Cork, a place I know very well and visit often. I'm sure quite a few TMAers know the Stones there in this outstandingly beautiful place:

I still think they're a brilliant idea, but we just gotta make sure they're put somewhere sensible!

I've mentioned on many occasions speaking with a local businessperson on Lewis whose concerns were exactly this! Well, it was that they were dangerous to use if the wind was too high, which it frequently is up there. Et voila! C'est ca! Le poulet est dans le pamplemousse.

Yes, they are a very good idea, but the concept of gazing out from Kealkill stones, for example, and seeing them dotted around does bother me, but if it's the price we have to pay, so be it.

Namaste _/_ :-)
