not Green Belt and therefore not protected....

That's exactly the problem. And when it comes to our particular stuff in those areas, scheduled monuments, the law is supposed to protect them but that doesn't include leaving a decent space round them. Decisions like that mainly lie with EH and although they have a duty to protect they are also creatures of the government.... :(

Who'dathoughtit? NT are going to be allowed to claim victory but the bad stuff will remain.

Using public money to ensure your mates can build houses in the green belt would get you shot in China.

What a piss take.

Some very good points. The problem is that there is no criteria to define the heritage and historic nature of vast stretches of landscape eg. the countyside around East Coker would certainly qualify, but it's not Green Belt and therefore not protracted. This is a common problem in largely rural areas - it's there for the taking and public opposition means nothing in the face of grredy developers and local councils on the make.

I have a waking nightmare that one day I will look out from Glastonbury Tor to a sea of concrete as far as the eye can see.

Come off it, you'll be telling us you dreamt they built a motorway next to the Hill of Tara next!

I've not heard that phrase - what does it mean?

I just thought it was good that this had even made it to court, which was why I thought it positive and worthwhile mentioning. :)
