for the future
Is great, yet I personally feel these monuments to be living breathing 'things', Avebury for instance isn't just a relic, it's a part of our heritage, and shapes peoples lives today, so the 'past' is finished in many eyes, especially developers, my vote is we keep our heritage alive in the way we speak of it and conserver it. 'Preserve' sounds like something in aspic, whilst 'Protect' sounds actively beneficial. Words, words words!
