BBC trailer hell
Oct 15, 2020, 23:10
I don’t watch a lot of TV: I prefer music. The TV I do watch is exclusively terrestrial, as I’m buggered if I’m going to spend my pittance of a pension on repeats or endless box sets.

So how come that, no matter how little TV I see, I’m so intimately familiar with trailers for Strictly, Top Gear and whatever shit show the aptly named Danny Dyer is hosting? How many hundred times must I view that dreadful BBC Sounds promo? How many mentions (usually in appalling estuary English) of iPlayer must I endure per hour of viewing? It’s annoying enough having the cost of a TV licence wrestled from my account against my will without getting the same shite trailers thrust down my throat again and again. Even after the shows have been aired, the trailers reappear - this time plugging them on effing iPlayer.

Yeah, I know I can always reach for the off button and believe me, I do. But these bastard promos appear without warning the second the few programmes I do want to view have finished. Not only that, plugs for soaps and shows for which I’ve absolutely no interest are voiced over the closing credits of the few shows I watch. I acknowledge that there are currently much worse things to fret about, but this is really bugging me.

Am I alone?
