Whenever I've watched this on telly, the audio has sounded like it oozes through six inches of house dust plus the occasional rat dropping. Nice in principle, but in practice this detracts from the ambience. I have just found there's now a fresh version of this, at the same time tragic but also one of the funniest films ever made, available on YouTube. Only 6k views so far. The sound is crystal clear...my ladyfriend and I are watching as I write. All Along The Watchtower sounds marginally slower than on record. Perhaps this print of the entire film is..it feels like you can sink into it. The world already feels marginally better. We may well be in Penrith in the next day or so and we will be buying root vegetables and patronising a tearoom...
Like Father Ted, people either 'get' Withnail or they do not. I prefer the company of the former e v e r y time. It is an infallible litmus. Enjoy. Pass it on.
