DVD-A surround sound
Sep 17, 2017, 19:33
It seems the norm these days for super deluxe editions of classic (and usually not so classic) albums to include a DVD-A surround sound mix in addition to the various remixes, alternative takes and myriad other "exclusives" that have justifiably stayed in the can until now. I've fell pray to several such releases in recent years, which now seem to come out with such tiresome regularity that it's become laughable. But that - nor my amazement that Steven Wilson ever finds time to record anything himself for remixing all and sundry - is not the point I want to query here.

My question to my respected fellow music loving dudes herewith is this: how do I play these DVD-A thingies? I've always regarded myself as a bit of an audiohead (hey, great band name!) but in a traditional one or two channel sense. Does anyone out there have the means and wherewithal to enjoy what is redundant, unplayed emphemera chez Fitter? If so, did it involve great expense, and was/is it worth it?
