I can assure you, young Ian, that at no point during my childhood, did my choir-loving parents guide me in any way towards enjoying a piece of pop perfection by four young chaps from Sheffield who had a penchant for lame suits and a producer who wore extremely large and silly spectacles who, in a previous moment of clarity, had anticipated the birth of MTV.
My parents did have Telstar though, so it wasn't all bad.
