I think Cale did it better, although the early Bauhaus singles and first album were quite good.

Magazine..Jeez they took no prisoners live and Graham Parker and the Rumour..Van Der Graaf!...I was very suprised how wonderful The Psychedelic furs were live too..early on that is...Captain Sensible did play with Dolly Mixture a couple of times at 'The Hope and Anchor' in Islington but Gnomon it was the same for me those girls made me seriously hot under the collar..Paddy used to say that we had plenty of street cred and top notch drugs and we were brixton boys we should present ourselves at the stage door for love-duties but we never did...Lack-a-day!

Wasted Youth were pretty good when they escaped their grungy tendencies. The Perrett produced 'I'll Remember You' is a great 7". Pretty much soaked up everything by The Psychedelic Furs at the time too. Was recently surprised to hear Rich Butler's voice on the 'Charmed' theme song, a cover of The Smiths' 'How Soon Is Now'.

I heard a TV Personalities album in a shop in Nottingham one time; thought it was pretty ace. Couldn't afford it at the time and subsequently forgot about it. I've got the 'Sense Of Belonging' 7" which I think is from about the same time (83/84?). The album didn't sound anything like the 'Part Time Punks'/'Where's Bill Grundy Now?' TV Personalities I remembered... Any idea what the album was, and is it still worth tracking down?

Yup. The album's "The Painted Word", it's from 84 and it's their best. Vox Phantom reviewed it for Unsung a few years ago, and it's still a masterpiece, albeit a depressing one. They're back too, btw. Apparently singer Dan Treacy was tracked down to a prision boat in Dorset quite recently where he was incarcerated for burgling people to fund his heroin addiction, but he's out now and has recorded a new album which is due to be released next year.
