Gate Gourmet Strikers -Solidarity Action
Oct 14, 2005, 16:05
STATEMENT FROM GATE GOURMET STRIKERS SUPPORT GROUP
WEST LONDON AND SOUTH ASIA SOLIDARITY GROUP

The dispute at Gate Gourmet is NOT OVER. The workers are still on the picket line.
The following facts need to be
publicised:

1.While it has been reported in the press that a deal has been agreed, none of the workers
has been given any information about who is to be offered their jobs back, who will face
compulsory redundancy and who will be simply sacked. They are in a limbo.

2.The company is deliberately delaying in the process of implementing the
deal because
after 9th November the workers will no longer be entitled to take them to Industrial
Tribunal.

3.The workers are receiving only £50 a week from the TGWU and this is not enough
for them to survive.

4.The company is trying to force those made compulsorily redundant to sign a
‘compromise’ agreement giving up their
right to take their cases to Industrial Tribunal

The workers would also like to highlight the brutal behaviour of the management of
Gate Gourmet on 10 August 2005 the day the dispute began. They were locked in the
canteen without any food or water or access to toilets for almost 8 hours. Even one
worker who was pregnant was not allowed to go to the toilet. They were physically
dragged and thrown out of the building by police and 60-70 private security guards
who had been specially called in by the management to be present that day. One pregnant woman and one woman aged over 50 were among those violently thrown out with 4 security guards to each worker.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

1.The workers still need your support on the picket line on Beacon Hill outside the
Terminal 4 perimeter fence. They are there between 7 am and 7pm
(see below for directions)

2.The Gate Gourmet Support Groups and South Asia Solidarity Group have called a
peaceful MASS SOLIDARITY DAY on the
picket line on 16 October 2005,
11 AM to 2 PM

3.The Gate Gourmet workers
urgently need financial support, we urge you to call upon
the trade union leadership to act on this so that they can continue their struggle which
will affect all workers

4.We urge you also call upon the trade union leadership to launch an appeal for every
trade
unionist to contribute £1 towards the strike.

HOW TO GET THERE:
Going by public transport: Take the Piccadilly Line to Hatton Cross underground station,
turn right and follow directions below from there,
OR take left exit out of the Hatton Cross underground station and go to bus
stop on
the left. Take H23 bus (about five minutes journey; check with bus driver for where to
get off).

Going by road: Pick up the A30 from either the A4 Great West Road, or A312 south from Junction 3 of the M4, and go south west;

Then - go past the Hatton Cross underground station and after 1 mile take the slip road
left for Terminal 4, T4. Cross over the A30 and at the roundabout take the first left along the perimeter road. After about half a mile, mass demonstrators are visible standing on the grassy slope. (cars can be parked around the corner at the next roundabout, if you pull up onto the grass verge - off the road - you may be asked to move on by the police).

Note - the large size A-Zs have
maps that cover this area. There is a map on www.multimap.com with postcode TW6 3AF. The picket is by the Beacon Road roundabout
