The moderators' task in judging the best level of intervention on this forum is sometimes difficult. But as a baseline we have to assume that everyone posting is an adult aware of how civilised people interact.

Everyone has to take responsibility for their own posts. Racist language is not acceptable. Personal attacks that escalate differences of opinion aren't acceptable.

It is simple for one of the moderators to 'press the button' but this decision has never been taken lightly. The majority of posters have been willing to bear a certain level of disruption because they are tolerant people who are willing to balance it against the positive contributions of that disruptive minority. You, the forum members, have questioned that balance this week.

I am making it clear that things have gone too far and the welfare of the majority of posters now has to take precedence. Everyone should consider themselves warned. We all know what is acceptable interaction on this forum and what isn't.

Consider this a final warning.
