Ancient sites in Chile?
Apr 25, 2009, 17:25
I'm planning a trip to Chile next month as a bit of a spur of the moment adventure having been laid off work this week.

Anyone know of any sites I should check out?
I've done a quick internet search but thought it worth asking here for any nuggets of information....
or if anyone is after a picture of something for their research.

Cheers all

There's quite a bit of pre-columbian rock art in Chile, similar to the stuff you see in the SW of the US.

It may well be more faff than it's worth to try and locate them though. Do a google image search with 'Chile' and 'Petroglyph' as the criteria to see examples.

Easter Island! Only a 6 hour flight from Santiago...
...but I guess you mean MAINLAND Chile.

The only ones I know about are the geoglyphs in the Atacama at Cerro Pintado, and the site at Monte Verde in the south: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_Verde

I'd be interested to know what you find as we're wondering about going to Chile in the next couple of years (I have a friend moving to Santiago later this year.)
