Recently saw "Nicholas & Alexendra", a 70's historical epic about the last Tsar and the early days of the Russian Revolution. Not seen it for aeons, and I do like a good historical epic. It stars Michael Jayston and Janet Suzman in the titular roles, both perhaps better known for their small screen and theatrical work rather than films. It also features a pre- Dr Who Tom Baker as a wonderful Rasputin in all his plum voiced and boggle eyed glory. In fact, the film is jam packed with the then cream of Brit thesps from the big hitters like Olivier to the hardy perennials like Harry Andrews. And it features early roles for such future greats as Brian Cox and Ian Holm. Proper, great Sunday afternoon joy.
