The Modern Antiquarian on BBC2 and Happy Summer Solstice
The programme slot for The Modern Antiquarian is confirmed for 7.00pm on BBC2 this Saturday, 24 June 2000 CE. (Pick of the Day in Radio Times!) I’ve now seen it, and it is Rock. A beautiful 55 minutes.
Happy Summer Solstice to everyone. Avebury has been hopping today, but we’ve heard a weird rumour that someone fell in the hole on top of Silbury in the early hours of the morning. There has been 24-hour security at Silbury for the past few days – but an elderly man in a beach chair obviously is not enough to convince folks that it really is dangerous up there at the moment.
We are planning a new feature for the Modern Antiquarian section of this site – this will be called The Practical Antiquarian. We’ve noticed that a lot of you have been sharing your information about practical aspects of touring prehistoric Britain (and elsewhere), so we thought we would take it further and, with your help, create an interactive “rough guide”. It will include all practical information, such as B&Bs, camping, food, pubs, nearby sites, folklore – anything you want to add. Webmaster Chris is already on the case, and we hope to have this up and running as soon as possible.
