Mosaic Records in trouble
Jul 17, 2018, 21:13
I know this venerable site is mainly dedicated to gnostic rock and roll, but I'm sure there are a few jazz heads who pop by from time to time as well. To such dudes I doubt there are many who don't know about Mosaic Records of Stamford CT, who for several decades have specialised in putting out beautifully packaged, annotated and mastered limited edition box sets of the great and good from all corners of jazz.

Well, I'm sad (or should that be blue) to note that they aren't in the rudest of health these days. For the first time ever their wonderful set of the Dean Benedetti Charlie Parker recordings - their only owned (as distinct from leased) set - does not appear in the now very sparse selection of current releases listed on their website. This is a tragedy. Sure, the recordings themselves will doubtless reappear on various dodgy labels in the fullness of time, but they'll not replicate the stunning packaging, or sound, of the Mosaic originals. As regards their licensed releases, in my experience Mosaic's remasters sound better than any previous or subsequent releases on other labels, that's when they're ever made available elsewhere of course. If they are going down then, believe me, they'll be a massive, massive miss. If you care about a label which cares more than most for its listening patrons, do support them while you can.
