Push The Sky Away - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds I've played this a lot this year and have started to realise that it has slowly become one of my fave Nick Cave albums. Garden Of Ashes – Duke Garwood Phantom Radio – Mark Lanegan Band For some reason the Joy Division influence on Phantom Radio hadn't sunk in, but hearing it again of late (post-Peter Hook live appearance with ML in Manchester) it's startlingly obvious and I don't know how I missed it. A Hooky-like bassline here, some Atmosphere-like, er, atmosphere there, on top of Lanegan's great voice and material. Garwood, meanwhile, was unknown to me until I saw him support ML and was mightily impressed. They undoubtedly share common ground – incidentally Garwood co-writes a track on Phantom Radio. American Dream - LCD Soundsystem I'm enjoying this – sure it wears its influences on its sleeves (Scary Monsters-like guitars, Bunnymenish riffs, Kilimanjaro (the When I Dream b-side) drums, a bit of Suicide, etc – but they're the right influences AFAIC! :) I Used To is great! Xmas – Low I dig this one out more or less every xmas. Blue & Lonesome – Rolling Stones I played this a lot when it came out but hadn't heard it in a while. Just as good as I remembered. I really likes its roughness and directness. True Faith (Mojo cd) – V/A I love the Staple Singers number, Will The Circle Be Unbroken. 2000 Light Years From Home (UK Rock Trips Out 1967-1970) (Mojo cd) – V/A Some of this was too 'rock' for me, but it has its moments – The Alan Bown, Andy Ellison (who says his backing singers on his take off The Beatles You Can't Do That were Dusty, Rod and Madeline Bell!) Also... The Next Day – David Bowie Who Is The Sender – Bill Fay Shag Tobacco – Gavin Friday Silver Eye - Goldfrapp Analogue Creatures Living On An Island – Immersion Red Barked Tree – Wire To Pimp A Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar The Correct Use Of Soap – Magazine 20 Years In A Montana Missile Silo – Pere Ubu Stranded – Roxy Music Adrift – Tarwater Intervision – Jimi Tenor Tanx – T.Rex Bolan's Zip Gun – T.Rex From The Velvers To The Voidoids (U.S Punk Rock Roots 1970-1978) – V/A 2018: The New Year Starts Here (Uncut cd) – V/A Modern Kosmology – Jane Weaver

I had that tape of Faith too, I'm pretty sure Carnage Visors is on the 2 CD reissue. Cure tapes were great, I had the Concert one with loads of obscure stuff on side 2, and Standing on a Beach with all the b-sides. As for The Dark Is Rising, I re-read that particular book most midwinters. I tend to re-read the rest in their seasons, but this year I did read Over Sea Under Stone again just before TDIR. I have a now very tatty single volume paperback from the 1980s, it is my most re-read book.
