Main replays for this week, all from 2015:

Gang of Four - What Happens Next
Hard to accept as a Go4 album with no John King and with a succession of guest vocalists, but this has some good moments and is definitely not an attempt to retread old ground. Favourites for me "The Dying Rays", "Isle of Dogs" and "Where The Nightingale Sings".

FFS - FFS
Everything that you would want from a collaboration between Sparks and Franz Ferdindand, funny and very enjoyable, with the highlight the obviously ironic "Collaborations Don't Work".

Ghost Harmonic - Codex
On the subject of collaborations, this matches John Foxx with Benge and the sweet violin of Diana Yukawa. I got very hooked into this after a couple of plays, notes hanging in the air and then decaying. Kind of reminiscent of Eno's Discreet Music album. 5 long instrumental tracks over 50 minutes. Highly recommended.

Otherwise:

V/A - Neu Decade

The Cure - The Head On The Door
The Durutti Column - Bread & Circuses
New Model Army - No Rest For The Wicked
New Order - Low-life
New Order - "The Perfect Kiss" and "Sub-culture" 12" singles
The Sisters of Mercy - First & Last & Always
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Kicking Against The Pricks
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Your Funeral ... My Trial
Depeche Mode - Black Celebration
The Durutti Column - Greetings Three EP
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Liverpool
Peter Gabriel - So
Happy Mondays - Peel Session 1.4.1986
The Housemartins - London 0, Hull 4
James - Stutter
The Mission - The First Chapter
New Order - "Shellshock", "State Of The Nation", "Bizarre Love Triangle" 12" singles

I am blissfully unaware of his public pronouncements luckily, but am rather fond of 'spent the day in bed'.

I'd keep in the state of blissful ignorance if you can.

Been to a couple of gigs this week which is always a pleasing thing

Robert Plant & the sensational Shapeshifters @ Plymouth Pavillions which was thoroughly enjoyable. His solo stuff was pretty good amongst the Zep tracks which were performed with great aplomb by his band.

Olive Haigh @ The Old Bakery Truro. Best auto harp player that I've ever seen! Really powerful voice and presence live too. Mention should be given to other bands on the bill, The Worm and someone else that replaced someone other which isn't a fair description as they were quite good. Something to do with eels.

Michael Chapman - Navigation & Deal gone down.

The Monks - Black Monk Time

Wolfnote & Waxx @ The New Inn, Tywardreath 2016

Yak @ Village Underground 2016

Wooden Wand @ Beerwolf, Falmouth 2013

I’ve only played it twice, but I like it. He’s in good voice, the songs are as ascerbic as ever, and his band is cooking. I’m none too impressed with his UKIP supporting ways either, but if I stopped listening to artists with the odd non-righteous tendency I’d have a pretty restricted record collection. Hell, one of the other names on my playlist was a fully paid up member of the National Socialists in the 1930s. Mozza seems almost innocent after that!

Haha, fair do's! If I do listen I'm going to need a cleansing dose of The The or someone afterwards.

Yes indeed. I think Maximum Joy is my favourite of their songs. I used to listen to the intro over and over when I was a kid.

Afro Celt Sound System superb :-)

Yep I was at some kid's firework display in Edinburgh and there were Indian dancers dancing to them before the display - quite surreal. Blast from the past - I used to frequent a club (Eden) in Edinburgh c. 20 years ago that used to play all sorts of Celtic tribal dance stuff like this.
