Sad news that Husker Du singer/songwriter/drummer Grant Hart has died. Moving post from Bob Mould on his Facebook page.

I was at the penultimate UK Husker Du gig at the Town & Country Club in Kentish Town (now The Forum) (the last one was Glastonbury) Perfect set - absolutely blinding - they were supported by World Domination Enterprises and The Shamen (when they were great - prior to all that ecstacy dance rubbish) My mate liked bands who engaged with the audience and put on a show. With Husker Du - no showy stuff - not a single word spoken to the audience in their set. My mate loved it. RIP Grant Hart - too bloody young.

I was at that show too - didn't realise at the time that it would be the last chance I'd get to see them, obviously. Also saw him play solo (twice) and with Nova Mob (once). From a musical point of view it's particularly sad that he had to go now, since his last solo album was a belter and he seemed to be on an artistic upturn. Apparently he'd been battling cancer for some time now - which makes me wonder if he pulled out all the stops for "The Argument" knowing it'd be the last record he'd ever make. With hindsight some of it could be read as the musical equivalent of a last will and testament - but of course that's just idle speculation. R.I.P.

OH NO! NOT ANOTHER Was fortunate enough to catch the Huskers in Glasgow 1986. He was coming up with some amzing compositions at that time. Post Huskers I played 2541 constantly - it was such a "feel good" song at the time. RIP Grant!

This is really sad news. As has been said, his last album The Argument is great, and his legacy in Husker Du is untouchable - lucky to have seen them at Glastonbury in '87...
