Motorpsycho – The Tower. New double album from Norway’s most prolific band. Everyone seemed to like their last one (Here Be Monsters), which I thought was a bit meh, but this really is an absolute monster, a brilliant collection of expansive hard prog and stoner psych that deserves to be one of the albums of the year (but given Motorpsycho’s profile in this country, probably won’t be).

Chris Forsyth & The Solar Motel Band – Dreaming In The Non-Dream. Talking of which, here’s another album of ‘widescreen art rock’ (as it says on CF’s Bandcamp page), not as ambitious as the Motorpsycho, but in the same ballpark: https://chrisforsyth1.bandcamp.com/album/dreaming-in-the-non-dream

A Year In The Country – Undercurrents. Compelling but bleak electronica and drones from pastoral hauntology guy. Interesting, but you wouldn’t want to visit too much: https://ayearinthecountry.bandcamp.com/album/undercurrents

Ufomammut – 8. Nearly 50 minutes of non-stop cosmic metal bludgeon, pretty intense: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNuOfxL6afE

Bark Psychosis – Hex / ‘Scum’. Revisiting Hex again – still don’t like the vocals, but maybe I was a little harsh the other week. ‘Scum’ still sounds astonishing, one of the greatest recordings of the 1990s – honestly, if you’re a Talk Talk fan and you’ve never heard this, you need to click on this link right now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MiuqyWVQ44

Terje Rypdal – Bleak House. TR’s first solo album I think, navigating a way between trad and more exploratory guitar jazz, but already pointing to the future: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isHgUDbkbYg
