I found this -- did JC not get around to recording a vocal? Maybe that's why it was left off the WILDER reissue?

From what I can remember, it was certainly intended for inclusion on Wilder (even to the point of being referred to on the LP sleevenotes) but Cope wasn't particularly happy with Balfe's arrangement of it so never completed it.

That said, the Zombies' version, along with Nico (circa Marble Index) and Tim Buckley's Happy Sad are clearly primary influences on Fried era Cope.
I got into Odessey & Oracle long after being a Cope fan and the first time I heard Butcher's Tale I just thought "fuckin' hell Julian, you certainly used this one a bit".
It's those chords.
