Just as well as we're booked to play and we've a guitar/synth player, a theremin/synth player and bass. Unamplified these things don't really come into their own, I find. Especially, when i get behind the kit.

Hey - BEASTFISH! What a cracking band you have there!! Wow, good set (what I saw of it) - And a pleasure to meet you afterwards Squire!!

Cheers Mr C! 'Twas a pleasure to meet, albeit rather briefly. We've just landed at the Green Gathering after a rather wet few days camping in Llananthony. When and where are you playing the GG?

8.15pm Saturday, with Black Light Secret on the Floating Lotus stage.

And then playing hand percussion with Shankara at 1am.

Hope it goes/went well. After 9 days of camping in continual rain, we've finally got back home to our various Yorkshire addresses. Both fests were great fun, though the attendant trench foot/hashish throat/housemaid's knee etc. might take a while to settle down. Must say though that the first track I felt the need to listen to on my return to Hebden B was Primal Scream's 'Kill All Hippies'.

Well... Our bassist and key member was rushed to hospital with chronic stomach pains, on Friday night - and booked in for immediate x-rays - so we knew we were going to have some trials and tribulations to work with. Our dancer and performer of a few verses is his girlyfriend, so she was going to be at his side and also out of the equation.

By the time I'd arrived on site the rest of the band had formulated a plan, however. We would do the set as an improvised thing, using Here & Now / Kangaroo Moon keys bod Mark Robson providing bass grooves on keys. He doesn't know our songs, so we decided we'd just jam around them. We'd a guitarist, sax player and electronics and theramen player still, anyway. We also used Sika Deer on didgeridoo to help augment our thrown together troupe. I think we pulled it off.

Our bass player was diagnosed to have an enlarged kidney stone, which was also infected, so a stent was inserted and a course of antibiotics ahead of a major op, in a few weeks to remove it. If he can actually get the removed stone, he's gonna give it to me to make to make some kinda percussion instrument out of.

I was also down to play a later set with Shankara Andy Bole, as his hand percussionist - I've been joining him, on and off, for a few years now, so had been looking forward to this one massively. I was very pleasantly surprised to find Mark and Sika both were joining us too! Both on didge this time. I was rather spannered by this stage and therefore thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

Eek! Best wishes to your bass player, hope he makes a speedy recovery. Would have loved to have caught your set but sadly we had to head back up North. I had the pleasure of meeting Andy Bole (Slim borrowed his amp, I believe) and the distinctly nocturnal Mark Robson for the first time, lovely guys both. I have to say I preferred Kozfest to Green Gathering vibe-wise (fewer trustafarians) though both were great. My mate Phil's done a rather nice write-up on the former - you can read it here

It's only just filtered through to me, via the festival jungle drums...
