Motorhead: "Fourth in a five day marathon, We're moving like a parallelogram"

Does that count as synecdoche?
Parallelogram is the wrapper for speed innit?

I don't know.

I always assumed that it was a perfect description of the going-in-all-directions-at-once feeling of being out of it for a prolonged period.

I am surprised no-one has mentioned "Summer The First Time" by Bobby Goldsboro.

The sun closed her eyes
As it climbed in the sky
And it started to swelter
The sweat trickled down
the front of her gown
I thought it would melt her

She threw back her hair
Like I wasn't there
She sipped on a julep
Her shoulders were bare
And I tried not to stare
When I looked at her two lips

I can thing of no other set of lyrics which can approach that kinda zone. A close challenger might be Orange Juice's "Intuition Told Me So - part two" which rhymes "limbo" with "akimbo" but you have to take in Edwyn's willful and knowing irony there.

Had a love affair with Nina
In the back of my cortina
A seasoned up hyena
Could not of been more obscener
She took me to the cleaners & other misdeameanours
But I got right up between her
Rum & her Ribena

etc etc

Great choice!

I thought the parallelogram was the 4 bikes riding 2 abreast - a biker term.

Well here's Alice's thoughts on the matter.....

Well we got no class
And we got no principals
And we got no innocence
We can't even think of a word that rhymes

Long been partial to this corker from Ian Dury, from within the pages of Allo Sausages, that amazing book of lyrics / unused wordage...

Even with her bra off
She looked like Boris Karloff

Well - things you don't know.

Speed wrapper?
Mental state?
Bike formation?

A couple of verses from Grinderman's No Pussy Blues...

I sent her every type of flower,
I played her guitar by the hour,
I patted her revolting little chihuahua,
But still she just didn't want to...

I thought I'd try another tack,
I drank a litre of cognac,
I threw her down upon her back,
But she just laughed and said
that she just didn't want to.

Ode to Billie Joe - Bobbie Gentry

And mama said to me, child, what's happened to your appetite?
I've been cookin' all morning, and you haven't touched a single bite
That nice young preacher, Brother Taylor, dropped by today
Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday, oh, by the way
He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge
And she and Billy Joe was throwing somethin' off the Tallahatchie Bridge
