Mick Bund died at 4pm today of a heart attack. He was bassist in Felt from 87-89, singer with Mexico 70 - and appeared in three ventures with Sarah Cracknell prior to her membership of St Etienne - The Worried Parachutes, Prime Time and Oblivion River. Sarah and Mick remained lifelong friends. Saint Etienne covered one of his compositions - "You Know I'll Miss You When You're Gone" - I covered it myself at a folk club a year or two earlier.
I hadn't seen him for a while but we were in touch online - albeit infrequently. Back in the 80's and 90's I saw him a lot - and it was Mick who deepened my interest in all things Julian Cope - I knew the hits but he was waxing lyrical about the brilliant B-Sides - and his exuberance and enthusiasm persuaded me to open the wallet and dive in to Julian's discography. One of his favourite all-time songs anywhere was "Tiny Children".
Cope and Mick were always synonymous with each other in my mind. Sad he's gone.
