Y'all Curious if anyone can identify the synth used to get that sound on the opening track "Fonni". I realize Holy probably has an arsenal of gear, but it seems like those opening notes (and arpeggiated run) are sourced from one synth. Maybe the man himself can answer. I'm trying to educate myself on analog synths, and it's hard to tell what equipment is and what isn't capable of producing some of those desired sounds.

Hi Citizensmurf, The synth used at the beginning of 'Fonni…' was Julian's Korg M500 http://www.vintagesynth.com/korg/micropreset.php Julian's Mellotron 400 was processed with either the Korg MS20 or a Korg Monotron (both were involved, but the precise patching now escapes me). We also used a Roland JX-3P. Cheers! H

I've been looking at the remade MS-20 as a tabletop unit ( http://www.korg.com/us/products/dj/ms_20mkit/ ), it looks like a deadly instrument, but maybe a bit much for a first synth purchase.

Whoa, didn't know Korg M500 could sound so awesome! And I almost regret swapping my JX-3P (without the PG-200, and with few defected keys..) for a Moog Rogue awhile ago...

Nah. Go for it! It's a cool, flexible but not too complicated combo (except for the keys, which are tiny on the remake, but still..). I'd say a good place as any to start and learn hands on about synths and synthesis, unless you want presets.

It's small, portable (it can run on batteries), has a sequencer, and looks like a lot of fun to play with. Built in oscilloscope so you can see the waveforms change. And only $400 CDN. I also bought a PCB for the E.A.R. Gristleizer (based on the original TG/Chris Carter one) a while ago, and now I'm going to attempt to build it. I'm going to have to learn how to solder a circuit board. http://www.endangeredaudioresearch.com/desktop/#/gristleizer-desktop/

Monologues look really nice - they seem to me to be like the old Electribe EA1s but actually sounding good this time. They do the Aphex Twin micro tuning, what practical use this has I don't know but synth forums are going mad for it. I have the Minilogue and it's a lovely, very versatile sounding, and veryfun to play but of kit so I'm sure you'll enjoy the mono.

Monosynths are good, but sometimes you need to use a reasonable amount of fingers and go poly! This is good though!¬ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mClMsqfSms You really want one of these - http://weltenschule.de/TableHooters/Casio_MT-30.html I normally use a big piano.

Well 3 months later and I finally have my Korg Monologue in hand. It's physically quite small, but packs a large sound. The filter sounds amazing, very excited to play around with this. Very portable too, it can run off 6 AA batteries, so you might see me in the campground twiddling knobs.
