I've heard something pluck-at-heartstrings beautiful

...on Radio 3's World On 3. Having always had a soft spot for the uilleann pipes, be they in the hands of Paddy Moloney of The Chieftains or others. I've just heard them been taken somewhere else, in the hands of Breton Loïc Bléjean with bandmate Tad Sargent who plays bouzouki-guitar and bodhran. The piece of music was called Sliabh Na mBan, from their forthcoming eponymous debut album out on Feb 10th. I a m having that. Weirdly, musing what they'd be like covering Richard Thompson's Beeswing, I then looked on the tracklisting on Amazon and..they have. OK, it's only January, but if that quality of music is sustained then I reckon it could well be in the running for folk album of the year for '17, and a worthy successor to Our Shirl's Lodestar. Seeing her and them this year is an ambition I must fulfill. If any folk want to hear what I did, the Fri 13th programme's up on iPlayer via the World On 3 website, and they're at about the 1hr 20 mark..the whole programme was fine, though: a good accompaniment to salubrious weekend doings? Music from other kitchens. There's stuff by them on Soundcloud and Youtube, and read more here: http://thenestcollective.co.uk/artist/loic-blejean-and-tad-sargent/ and here: http://blejeansargent.com 'Tis a pity they haven't played with Julian on Drunken Songs....haven't heard it yet, but a mashup between him and them, if he's exploring the Irish folk motherlode, is something I'd love to hear. Blather over, but not without good cause.
