Young Marble Giants - no more.....

Stuart Moxham has just announced that the gig they played at the RFH last August as part of David Byrne's Meltdown was their last. They knew at the time but didn't want to announce it at that point. I was a shade too young for the first time around, but got to see them a few times during the reunion - and Mrs Chaos and I were at the final gig (and aftershow thanks to Stuart).

Stuart is playing in the duo Moxham & Halliday (and I think he is also working with Louis Philippe) and Anderw and Philip Moxham play in the Irascibles (who supported YMG in Cardiff) .I don't know if Alison is still performing.

I saw a gob smacking Young Marble Giants gig at the old Rock Garden years back. I'm very grateful for the memory now...

How did Alison's voice sound at Meltdown? Always found her singing pretty unique. Those effortless girlish sing-speak intonations married with Moxham's ominous bass riffs were a perfect combination. I also adore Statton's work on that lone Weekend album, and Moxham's band The Gist from around the same time had a pretty unique and very human take on the synth pop thang. Always nice to hear new Louis Philippe offerings, so there is that consolation (he's the most lovely male singer and arranger out there, so look him up if you haven't).

I've said this before... I feckin bought a ticket for the RFH & forgot I'd bought it, or at least thought I hadn't purchased one. Only when I received an email a week after the event asking how much I enjoyed it...
