Don't forget our very own Kosmicheboy is involved with the ensemble Temple Music who do some rather splendid spoken word/story based outsider meanderings.

I've got a CDr called 'Ancient Sorceries' which (off the top of my head....been a while) is a couple of M.R. James tales over some distinctly Coil-esque electronics. Brilliant stuff.

Sadly, most recordings are strictly limited, though I'm sure if you say something nice in Kosmicheboys shell-like, he might be persuaded to punt you a few files.

Also, and sadly, again rather rare are those wonderful Alan Moore spoken word albums with accompanying music by fellow Northamptian David J (Yes him of Bauhaus) and Tim Perkins. Released on Steve Severin's (Banshees) RE label. These are all worth tracking down, if only in MP3 format, as Alan Moore's word play is nothing if revelatory. Maaaaan that guy's hallucinatory prose is the modern equivalent of William Blake, and I don't say that lightly.

Oooh, don't forget the wonderful 'DUIR - The Stout Guardian Of The Door' album whose Welbourne Tekh, one time of the fabbo Sons Of T C Lethbridge (who also have a few spoken interludes on their Kraut/space classic - A Giant).

Also, Coil's Angelic Conversation has some beautifully spoken word passages of Shakespeare's sonnets. Judi Dench does a lovely (if slightly sexy voiced, or is that just me ;) rendition of several of them. Super chilled album on the cans too.

Also a coupla longer Coil spoken word/ambient noodley tracks are The Sea Priestess, MU-UR, and The Mothership and the Fatherland, off of the equally wonderful 'Astral Disaster' album.

Plus, and finally - Moons Milk In Four Phases Bonus disc has some lovely spoken word parts.

I'll shut up now or I'll be adding stuff forever.

Whoa, thanks ;-) Coil in particular are one of those bands I probably need to become better acquainted with - bought Horse Rotovator when it came out, had a couple of listens, then filed it away. But the reverence with which they're treated these days suggests I might have missed something...

The thing I like about the Duke St Workshop album is the way it musically dramatises a narrative reading, rather than just provide a nice droney bedding for a voice. No links unfortunately, but it's out first thing in Jan.
