Yup, I'm with you guys on the Beatles. Much maligned on these pages, along with a few others who are successful (and thereby considered mainstream) - but, yeah... The Fabs introduced many an ear to these sounds and attitudes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vefJAtG-ZKI

Even The Nolans records come alive under the shroom influence, though. The best experience I think I'll ever have on mushies, was way back in my art school days and a girl introduced me and a few others to the funny fungus, as we were getting ready to go out in Sheffield to see the German rock band The Scorpions. Jeez... The bus journey to Chesterfield train station was wild enough. But, then the train journey from there to Sheffield! The stripes on the carriage seats!! The whizzing lights flashing by, on the journey!! Then all the little houses, full of little people, as we passed through residential areas. Ha ha ha! We were all howling with laughter, as we kept pointing out silly things we'd seen. The best was when my mate could see all the rail staff eating their dinners in a trackside building, as we came into Sheffield station. The gig was utterly amazing, once we'd negotiated our way into the fabbo Sheffield City Hall building - and found our seats, high up in the circle balcony. In the break after Blackfoot, the support band I ran from the bar, as it was full of gorillas!! The Scorpions put on a particulary visual show. Dancing dressed as puppets standing on their amps, all sorta entwining and rolling around on the stage floor. We were utterly blown away!!! And then, at the end the whole massive drumkit was destroyed. Mind: Blown.

I wonder if there was any constraint from the pressure to maintain their popularity or if they transcended that> I know they stopped playing live around 1966 because they couldn't hear themselves onstage, which does leave me wondering if that would have been circumvented by the earlier arrival of the onstage monitor. I'm just wondering if other less popular artists had more possibility to get farther out on paths partially pioneered by the Fabs? There is some really great stuff by them anyway. Stevo

Three gems for you. Firstly something I found the other day while exploring a Can thread on Youtube: the mighty Takuro Yoshida. On subsequently wiki it seems he's still going and may even be revered, but make what you will of his debut release..all I can say is that I've only heard the first three tracks, and it took me two goes to manage that. Is this the music that AMT and Les Rals were formed to fight against? Sorry as usual for not being able to do direct yewtube links, but, after you've searched, ladeez an gennlemen... Japan's answer to Bob Dylan: 'Yoshida Takuro - Hello I'm Yoshida Takuro 1972 (full album)'. Second up: I studied in London in the mid-late '70's, listened to a lot of Capital Radio and Kenny Everett's japes therein, but it's occured to me that, since it never got a CD release, there may be folk here not 'of a certain age' totally unaware of the existence of his album The World's Worst Record Show..or others glad(?) to be reminded of it and make its reaquaintance. Twenty of the most bizarre and unintentionally bad tracks comitted to vinyl. Pee yourselves laughing, roll around the floor, whatever. The blogger - nice site - says "listening to this in one shot is spectacularily ill advised". Mark E subsquently did a cover of one song, connosewer that he is.... http://left-and-to-the-back.blogspot.co.uk/2010/10/kenny-everetts-worlds-worst-record-show.html?m=1 ...the album's partially available as a playlist on ytube if that doesn't load..... Last but by no means least, peeps should lend an ear to the majesty of: Spaced Out - The Very Best of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. Its on amazon, read the reviews, go to youtube for the tracks praised(cough) therein. Happy listening!!

He played it at Glastonbury when he performed solo there in 1971. I heard it when the Radio Geronimo website had it for a while incl the amazing glimpse of the Gilberto Gil set.
