Not a record, but a film "A Field in England" by Ben Wheatley. Set during the civil war it features a motley band of deserters who go off in search of a pub, and innocently cook up a shroom stew. Filmed in black and white, somewhat iron ically for a psychedelic movie, this is one very bad trip.

Women - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yS40aDGxVw I saw them once in London. What a band! A real tragedy. I thought they were even better than Sonic Youth.

I love the record (it was out for Record Store Day) but haven't seen the movie - must get round to it.

Found a couple of Juke/19 samples on youtube and liking it. Which of the disks from the boxset would you say is best - they're all available individually. Looks like the 3rd CD: Pieces has 3 long tracks so wondering if that's more my thing?

Not at home to consult the set right now, but Pieces is indeed the tantric early drone record. I personally love the fractious, mongoloid This Heat grooves of some of the other disks, and the microwaved cat sounds that obviously inspired the early Boredoms, but that particular disk does indeed enter some timeless phantom zone. Look up another early '80s Jap experimental band The Mask Of The Imperial Family if you end up liking it- they also follow Mark E Smith's three R's (Repetition³) to unsettling effect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HgxiroYd80

thought I'd just bung in a few random titles that are pretty great. Fat Hit - Canadian avant garde rock trio, wish I could get this on cd Caspar Brotzmann Massaker Home Guitarist son of avant sax giant Peter, plays a live set in the studio as a near farewell to his band. Tim Buckley Return Of tHe Starsailor or any of the actual Starsailor band live sets. Ramleh Homeless Jefferson Airplane After Bathing At Baxters (an attempt to recreate an acid trip by one of the quintessential ballroom psych bands) Pharoah Sanders You've Got To Have Freedom or the series of lps from around '68 to the mid 70s that have the full length tracks on. Comus First Utterance Pop Group Y Sun Ra Strange Celestial road, Spontaneous Simplicity and a lot of others Can various live sets especially 22/5/72 Velvet Underground the Nothing Song Conqueroo From The Vulcan Gas Co much needed reissue of this material would be welcome. Grateful Dead live jams from August '68 and May '70 Miles Davis Dark Magus era John Coltrane Quartet live also Quintet. Henry Cow around '75 especially on the long improvisations Amon Duul Yeti some of the BIrthday Party's wilder live stuff Gong live around '74 God Anatomy of Addiction (dubbed out production on avant rock goodness) will think of others later also always really loved listening to these 2 while I was tripping Einsturzende neubauten Zeichnungen Der patienten O.T. Savage Republic Jamahiriya both for textures, think Pop Group's Y & the Airplaner's baxters both fit there too. Stevo

No I haven't heard it. Teeth of the Sea- what a great name. Anyway, the film does make pretty good use of its soundtrack. Check this clip out, it's about as tripy as cinema can ever get: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzLnRXtHO0M

the live versions of Bluebird by Buffalo Springfield that have continually escalating guitar duels between Stills and Young. Chrome's Half Machine Lip MOves Simply Saucer's Illegal Bodies instrumental passages. The Pyramids Cabaret voltaire's work as a trio, another thing that needs remastering. Mercury rev around the time of Boces Television live when the guitars go into overdrive. Stevo

Just to be clear - the Teeth of the Sea album is a "Re-Imagined" soundtrack, not the actual soundtrack.
