On my subs bench.

Behind Hook and Wobble? Each to his own but isn't that a bit like leaving Stan Bowles on the bench for Mick Channon and Martin Chivers?

Ha ha ha! Each to his own, as you say :o)

I could listen to Hook and Wobble all day, I'd get bored of Family Man basslines sooner than that.

That's interesting. I thought Hook and Wobble were great when I was 17 and their sound was fresh and new. I really liked Simon Underwood's dub/jazz thing too. The Pop Group are probably the only band from that era that I still listen to regularly. Which partly explains my five. None of the Prog, Punk or Metal guys got in as I don't much like FX, distortion or a lot of "top" on a bass guitar these days.

Greatest bass players is a fairly subjective list and 5 could easily be 25. If I had to pick the ones that objectively most influenced me personally then that list would include Wobble or Underwood for sure. Along with Charlie Haden, Chris Squire and Ken Gradney, Billy Cox or maybe Gerry McAvoy.
